3 - Seniors jobs / activities

from:

Finding Suitable seniors jobs and activities

Even if a person has reached the age of retirement there are still seniors’ jobs and seniors’ activities in which they can be productive. There are a number of seniors’ jobs and activities available for all age groups over fifty-five. One excellent source of job information and advice is AARP. The AARP provides information on training and retraining for new fields suited for seniors.

Even though they have reached retirement age many seniors still want to contribute by working while others have no choice but to continue working. Luckily, there are many seniors’ jobs / seniors activities available if one knows where to look or is willing to do the necessary retraining.

Suitable seniors jobs are those that do not generally require lots of physical strength or dexterity. Although illegal, age discrimination in the workplace does exist, but seniors can still find employment in some sectors. The service and education sectors are two areas where seniors can still make contributions. Seniors’ activities in the service sector include:

* Caregivers for other seniors, children or others
Many seniors find employment as caregivers after retiring. Some are employed to be companions to other seniors. While some, especially grandparents are employed by their grown children to be babysitters for their grandchildren.

Seniors’ jobs in nursing homes are available as well, taking care of other seniors who are unable to manage on their own.

* Counselors
Because of their life experiences or job experience some seniors find jobs as counselors. Some set up offices, while others work in hospitals and senior facilities, while still others offer their services at church.

* Upper managerial positions
Research has shown that some persons over fifty-five have been fortunate to find employment in upper managerial positions. These seniors’ jobs take advantage of the persons vast experience gained over the years.

* Teachers, especially in the areas where they had worked previously

Seniors’ activities include:

* Crafts
* Games
* Gardening
* Trips to museums, parks etc
* Pottery making

There are countless job banks that provide leads to seniors’ jobs that the retiree can access to find employment. Some of these job banks are free while others are fee-based.

It is also important to note that many seniors’ activities are volunteer activities, that is, they are not paid. Many of our aged citizens feel the need to keep working because they are healthy and active. They find it difficult to not be doing something.

Seniors are a vast reservoir of information gained through years of working experience. Sadly, this great reservoir of knowledge is largely left untapped because few companies are employing new workers over a certain age.
